Conversion rate

The share of eligible visits or interactions that result in a desired action, such as a purchase or signup.

Conversion rate is the share of eligible visits or interactions that result in a desired action, such as a signup, download, purchase, or form submission. In cyber security, it is a key measurement for both attackers and defenders because it shows how effectively a process turns attention into action. A phishing page, scam landing page, or malicious prompt may be judged by how often users complete the target step. Defenders use the same metric to evaluate security awareness messages, warning banners, MFA enrollment flows, and fraud controls.

The metric matters because a small change in conversion rate can signal a large change in risk or effectiveness. Attackers optimize pages, messages, and timing to raise conversions, while defenders look for drops caused by friction, trust signals, or intervention. To be useful, the conversion definition must stay consistent across channels and tools; otherwise, comparisons are misleading. In practice, analysts pair conversion rate with traffic quality, cohort data, and false-positive rates to understand whether an observed result reflects real behavior or manipulation.
