A contact point is the person or role an organization designates to receive and manage official security-related communications. This may include notices from regulators, incident-reporting requests, coordination with a CSIRT, or other compliance and response messages. In security programs, the contact point is usually tied to a named owner and a backup so communication does not depend on one unavailable individual.
This role matters because security decisions often move through email, portals, and formal escalation channels. If the contact point is unclear, messages can be delayed, ignored, or routed to the wrong team, which can slow incident response and create compliance failures. In real defenses, a clear contact point helps ensure phishing reports, abuse complaints, and regulatory alerts reach the right people quickly. In attacks, defenders often target these channels with impersonation or social engineering, so the role should be verified, documented, and backed by internal approval and delegation.
