A condition check is a fast evaluation of whether a device, system, or component is worth repairing, reusing, or further investigating. In cyber security, that first look helps decide if a laptop, server, router, or removable drive is healthy enough to trust or fix, or if it should be isolated and replaced.
It matters because wasted effort on unrecoverable hardware can delay a response, while overlooking damage can leave hidden risks in place. During incident response, technicians use condition checks to spot obvious signs of tampering, corrosion, broken storage, failed firmware, or missing parts before deeper analysis. In defense and maintenance, the same idea supports triage: assess quickly, estimate repairability, and choose the safest path. A good condition check does not prove a device is secure, but it gives a practical starting point for deciding what to do next.
