Component label

A tag used to group a vulnerability by the area of code it affects.

A component label is a tag used to group a vulnerability by the part of the codebase it affects, such as a browser subsystem, renderer, or media path. It does not describe the bug’s severity or exploitability by itself; it is a routing hint that helps engineers and defenders understand where the flaw lives.

In security work, component labels matter because they improve triage. Patch teams use them to assign fixes to the right owners, track risky modules, and spot areas that repeatedly produce memory-safety bugs. Attackers may also pay attention to these labels: repeated fixes in the same component can reveal stable exploit surface, while defenders use them to prioritize testing, hardening, and fast deployment of updates in the affected area.
