Cloud chat is Telegram’s standard chat mode, where messages are stored and synchronized on Telegram’s servers so the same conversation can appear on multiple devices. This is different from Secret Chats, which use end-to-end encryption and stay device-specific.
In cyber security, that distinction matters because the protection level, access model, and investigative surface are not the same. Cloud chats can be easier to manage and recover, but server-side storage and multi-device sync create different risks than end-to-end encrypted messaging. In real attacks, cloud chats, public channels, and large groups may be used for coordination, propaganda, phishing, or command distribution, while defenders may focus on account takeover, moderation, metadata, and content retention. Understanding which chat mode was used is essential for threat modeling and for interpreting claims about privacy or misuse.
