A cloud-based TMS, or trucking management system, is online software that helps logistics companies plan loads, dispatch drivers, track shipments, manage billing, and coordinate day-to-day freight operations. Because it is delivered as a service, users access it through web portals and APIs instead of running it on local servers.
It matters in cyber security because a TMS can become a single point of failure for scheduling, visibility, and customer communications. If attackers gain access to an account or admin console, they may steal shipment data, disrupt operations, or use the platform as leverage in extortion. Defenders should protect it with strong MFA, least-privilege roles, audit logging, secure API keys, and tested backups, especially for vendors that support many carriers at once.
