Chart integrity

The reliability of music rankings when streams and metadata are not distorted by abuse.

Chart integrity is the reliability of a ranking system when its inputs, such as stream counts, track metadata, and labels, are accurate and not manipulated. In music platforms, it means the chart reflects real listener activity and properly identified content rather than inflated or distorted signals.

From a cyber security perspective, chart integrity is a data-integrity and abuse-prevention problem. Attackers may try to boost ranks with bots, replayed streams, fake accounts, metadata tampering, or mislabeled uploads. Defenders use anomaly detection, rate limiting, provenance checks, account reputation, and manual review to keep rankings trustworthy. When chart integrity fails, discovery, monetization, and platform credibility can all be distorted.
