The Catasto is Italy’s administrative property registry for buildings, land parcels, and related fiscal records. It is the reference layer used to identify what exists, where it is located, and how it is classified for public administration and taxation. In practice, it links geospatial data, ownership or parcel identifiers, and cadastral attributes that determine how a property is handled by the state.
From a cyber-security perspective, the Catasto is sensitive because it is authoritative data. If registry records are altered, delayed, or exposed, attackers can enable fraud, identity abuse, or disputed assessments. Defenders therefore need strong access control, audit logs, data provenance, and validation against other sources such as aerial imagery or municipal records. In modern defense workflows, the Catasto is often checked by automated systems, but the final decision should remain traceable and reviewable by humans.
