Cache hit

A request that reuses stored context, often reducing computation and cost.

A cache hit happens when a system can answer a request using data or context it already stored, instead of recomputing everything from scratch. In AI APIs, this often means a prompt with a stable prefix can reuse previously processed context, which lowers latency, compute use, and cost.

Cache hits matter in cyber security because they affect both performance and spend. Defenders track cache-hit ratios to understand workload efficiency, spot abusive retry loops, and control agentic automation that may repeatedly trigger expensive cache misses. In cloud and AI environments, an attack does not always need to break access to cause damage; it can simply drive unnecessary recomputation and raise operating costs. Good prompt design, request normalization, and rate limits all help increase legitimate cache hits while limiting wasteful traffic.
