Cache data

Temporary web data that can help confirm recent browsing.

Cache data is temporary web content stored by a browser or application to make pages load faster. It can include images, scripts, style sheets, and other fragments that were recently requested. In forensic work, cache data matters because it can confirm that a site was opened even when history records are incomplete or deleted.

Security teams use cache remnants to reconstruct browsing activity, verify timestamps, and correlate page visits with URLs, downloads, and network telemetry. In attacks, cache may reveal a short-lived visit to a malicious page, a payload download, or a redirect chain that history alone does not show. Because cache is temporary, it is often overwritten or cleared, so investigators treat it as supporting evidence rather than a standalone proof.
