Browser settings

the configuration area where users can enable or adjust browser features.

Browser settings are the configuration area where users control how a web browser behaves. They cover privacy options, content filtering, permissions, cookies, notifications, downloads, and security features such as tracker blocking or safe-browsing warnings. These settings matter in cyber security because they often decide whether protection is active by default, disabled, or only enabled after a user changes it.

In defense, browser settings let people reduce tracking, block pop-ups, limit third-party cookies, and restrict access to the camera, microphone, or location. In attacks, threat actors may try to exploit weak defaults, persuade users to turn off warnings, or abuse permission prompts to gain more access than a site should have. Good browser hygiene means reviewing these settings regularly and keeping the most protective options turned on whenever possible.
