Broadcast playout

Systems that schedule and deliver media content for transmission.

Broadcast playout is the set of systems and workflows that schedule, assemble, and deliver media content for transmission. It may coordinate playlists, recorded programs, live feeds, graphics, and the equipment or services that send a broadcast to viewers or listeners.

These systems matter to cyber security because disruption can interrupt time-sensitive transmission and complicate recovery. Attackers may target the networks, servers, user accounts, or support tools that playout depends on; ransomware or access outages can affect operations even if broadcast equipment itself is not compromised. Defenders should restrict and monitor access, separate playout environments from general IT where practical, maintain tested backups and recovery procedures, and prepare continuity plans for manual or alternate transmission.
