Body-centric filtering

Email scanning that focuses mainly on visible message text rather than attachments or linked content.

Body-centric filtering is an email security approach that inspects mainly the visible message text for signs of phishing or abuse. It may score keywords, sender language, urgency cues, or suspicious requests, while giving less attention to attachments, embedded objects, and links that carry the real payload.

This matters because attackers often hide malicious intent outside the plain email body. A calendar invitation, document, or attachment can contain a deceptive link or prompt that looks harmless in the visible text. If defenses stop at the message body, they can miss the actual delivery path. Modern email security therefore needs to analyze the full message structure, including attachments, URLs, sender authentication signals, and file types such as .ics calendar content. In practice, body-centric filtering is useful as one layer, but it is incomplete on its own against phishing and social engineering.
