Blockchain-based domain resolution

A naming approach that relies on blockchain-linked records instead of standard DNS alone.

Blockchain-based domain resolution is a naming method that uses records stored or referenced through a blockchain instead of relying only on traditional DNS. Malware or services can look up a domain-like identifier through decentralized records, smart contracts, or related on-chain data to find the next control or access point.

This matters because it can make infrastructure harder to remove with standard registrar takedowns or DNS sinkholing. Attackers use it to keep command-and-control channels available even if normal domains are blocked. Defenders respond by monitoring blockchain lookups, blocking known resolver behavior, and correlating on-chain references with network traffic. It is not invisible or unstoppable, but it can increase the cost of disruption and complicate incident response.
