Battlefield data is operational information collected from conflict environments, such as sensor feeds, imagery, logs, communications metadata, and field reports. In military AI, this data is used to train, test, and improve systems that detect targets, classify events, or support decision-making. Its value comes from being real-world, mission-relevant, and often hard to simulate accurately.
In cyber security, battlefield data is sensitive because it sits on a high-risk supply chain. If attackers steal, alter, or poison it, they can expose operations, mislead analysts, or corrupt the models built on top of it. Defenders protect it with least-privilege access, strong provenance tracking, encryption, logging, and integrity checks. They also validate labels and inputs before training so that a compromised dataset does not become a compromised system.
