Backend verification is a server-side security check that decides whether an app, session, or request should be trusted based on evidence gathered outside the device. Instead of relying on logic inside the mobile app, the server validates signals such as device attestation, request integrity, token freshness, and expected behavior before allowing sensitive actions.
This matters because code running on the phone can be patched, repackaged, or instrumented by malware. In banking attacks, a trojan may tamper with a legitimate app and bypass local checks, but it is harder to fake controls enforced by the backend. Strong backend verification can reduce fraud by rejecting modified clients, suspicious sessions, or requests that do not match a trusted device state. It is a core defense when client-side security can no longer be assumed trustworthy.
