AWS-native tools are the security controls and monitoring features built into Amazon Web Services itself. They include services for logging, identity review, configuration checks, threat detection, and policy enforcement. Because they run inside the AWS platform, they can see cloud activity without requiring separate agents on every workload.
These tools matter because many cloud attacks exploit weak identities, overly broad permissions, public exposure, or risky configuration drift rather than malware alone. In defense, AWS-native controls help teams detect unusual API calls, spot misconfigurations, and record evidence for investigation and compliance. They are often the first layer of cloud security because they are already available in the environment and can be enabled quickly. In practice, defenders use them to reduce noise, narrow suspicious activity, and identify attack paths before an attacker can chain small gaps into a larger breach.
