Autonomous vulnerability discovery is the AI-driven identification of software flaws with limited direct human input. Instead of relying on a security researcher to manually inspect code or run every test, the system scans source code, binaries, configurations, and runtime behavior to spot weaknesses such as memory corruption, injection bugs, insecure logic, or misconfigurations.
In cyber security, this matters because it can greatly speed up the discovery phase of vulnerability research and reduce the time between finding a weakness and fixing it. Defenders can use it to prioritize review, generate proof-of-concept findings, and feed results into patching workflows. Attackers may also use similar automation to scale reconnaissance and bug hunting across large codebases. Its value depends on validation: AI can surface candidates quickly, but humans or testing tools still need to confirm whether a flaw is real, exploitable, and safely remediated.
