Authenticated command injection occurs when a system accepts crafted input from a logged-in user and passes it to an operating-system command or other command interpreter without safely validating or separating it. The attacker must first have valid access, but the flaw may let that account make the system perform actions beyond its intended permissions.
In cyber security, this can expose sensitive data, alter system settings, or enable further compromise, especially when the vulnerable application runs with elevated privileges. In attacks, a threat actor might use stolen credentials or an abused session to submit malicious input through a management console. Defenders should apply vendor patches, restrict access to administrative systems, review privileged accounts, and monitor authentication and command activity for unusual behavior.
