App-based banking is the delivery of financial services that are opened, used, and managed through a mobile application. Instead of visiting a branch or using a desktop portal, the customer relies on the app for login, transfers, deposits, card controls, and account monitoring. In practice, the app becomes the main control plane for the account, so its authentication, session handling, and device security are critical.
From a cyber-security perspective, app-based banking matters because attackers often target the app layer and the user behind it. Common threats include phishing that imitates the bank, fake or trojanized apps, credential theft, SIM swapping, and abuse of weak recovery flows. Defenses include strong multi-factor authentication, biometric checks, device binding, transaction alerts, app-store verification, and encryption in transit and at rest. For users and defenders, the key idea is simple: if the app is the bank, then protecting the app and the mobile device is part of protecting the money.
