Antimalware is software designed to detect, block, quarantine, or remove malicious files and activity. It may scan uploaded documents, web files, email attachments, and running processes to find known malware signatures, suspicious behavior, or unsafe patterns. In hosted environments, antimalware is often part of the baseline protection offered with the service.
It matters because malware is a common way attackers plant backdoors, steal credentials, or deface websites. Good antimalware can stop known threats early and limit damage after infection, especially on shared hosting or email systems where one compromised account can affect others. But it is only one control: it does not replace patching, strong passwords, least-privilege access, or secure configuration. In practice, defenders use antimalware alongside firewalls, backups, and monitoring to reduce risk and speed recovery.
