Always On VPN

A VPN model that aims to connect automatically when the device is online.

Always On VPN is a VPN deployment model designed to establish a secure tunnel automatically when a device has network access, often before a user signs in. It reduces manual connection steps and helps managed endpoints reach identity services, file shares, and administrative tools.

In cyber security, Always On VPN matters because it keeps remote devices under policy control and can limit exposure on untrusted networks. It is also a common point of failure: changes in certificates, authentication, routing, or operating system updates can break auto-reconnect and block access. Attackers may try to abuse misconfigurations, weak authentication, or VPN endpoints to move into internal networks, so defenders test updates, monitor connection health, and validate fallback access paths.
