An AI-powered browser is a browser or browsing agent that uses machine learning to interpret page content, summarize it, or carry out actions on behalf of a user. Unlike a normal browser, it may not only display HTML and CSS; it may also infer intent, follow prompts, and decide what to click, copy, or submit.
This matters in cyber security because the browser is no longer a passive viewer. If an attacker controls web content, email HTML, or styling, that input may influence both what the user sees and how the agent behaves. In practice, this can lead to credential theft, token exposure, unsafe navigation, or prompt injection against the agent’s decision-making. Defenses focus on strict separation between untrusted content and trusted actions, strong content sanitization, origin isolation, and explicit user confirmation before any sensitive step. Security teams should treat AI-driven browsing as an expanded attack surface, not just a smarter interface.
