AI-assisted classification

Using machine learning to help identify and label sensitive data at scale.

AI-assisted classification is the use of machine learning to identify and label sensitive data at scale. Instead of relying only on fixed rules such as keywords or regular expressions, these systems learn patterns in file content, metadata, and context to infer whether data is personal, financial, regulated, or otherwise high risk.

In cyber security, this matters because organizations create too much data for manual review, and static rules often miss unstructured text, inconsistent naming, or embedded secrets. Security tools such as DSPM, DLP, and cloud scanners use AI-assisted classification to tag documents, database fields, logs, and object storage, then prioritize the most exposed data first. It also helps defenders spot where sensitive records may be reachable by too many users or copied into AI workflows. The downside is that machine learning is not perfect, so confidence scores, policy tuning, and human review remain important.
