Agentic security is a security workflow built from multiple AI agents, each assigned a specialized role such as triage, code analysis, exploit validation, remediation drafting, or policy review. Instead of one model doing everything, a routed system divides the work and passes results between agents, often combining smaller, cheaper models with stronger reasoning models.
This matters because security work is complex, repetitive, and time-sensitive. In defense, agentic systems can help find vulnerabilities, generate proof-of-concept tests, and suggest fixes at scale. In offense, the same pattern can accelerate recon, exploit refinement, and phishing or malware adaptation. That is why agentic security needs strict controls: limited permissions, logging, human approval for high-risk actions, and clear boundaries on what an agent can read, change, or execute. The main benefit is speed and specialization; the main risk is that an automated workflow can also amplify mistakes or malicious behavior.
