Agentic defense is a security model that uses AI agents to help investigate alerts and take response actions with limited human delay. Instead of only flagging suspicious activity, the system can enrich telemetry, correlate signals across identity, cloud, network, and application data, and recommend or execute containment steps.
In cyber security, this matters because attacks often move faster than manual triage. Agentic defense can shorten mean time to detect and respond by automating repetitive analysis and routine remediation. In real environments, it may isolate a workload, revoke a credential, block a network path, or open a case for an analyst. The main risks are over-automation, poor context, and excessive permissions: if an agent misreads telemetry, it can disrupt production or worsen an incident. Effective deployments therefore need guardrails, approval workflows for high-impact actions, detailed logging, and rollback paths.
