Advanced Malware Protection, or AMP, is a security feature that inspects files, attachments, and other content for known malware and suspicious behavior. In email gateways and similar products, AMP helps decide whether an incoming file should be allowed, blocked, quarantined, or analyzed more deeply. It often combines signature checks, file reputation, and behavior analysis to catch threats that simple filters miss.
AMP matters because attackers frequently abuse trusted channels like email attachments to deliver malware. If the inspection layer is weak or vulnerable, the defender’s own control can become an entry point. In real environments, AMP is used to reduce risk before content reaches users, but it must be kept updated and monitored like any other exposed security component. Administrators should track version-specific flaws, confirm which inspection features are enabled, and treat suspicious attachment-processing errors as potentially serious incidents.
