ADB (Android Debug Bridge)

A command interface used to communicate with and control Android devices for debugging and automation.

ADB, or Android Debug Bridge, is a command interface that lets a computer talk to an Android device for debugging, testing, and automation. It can list devices, install or remove apps, copy files, read logs, open a shell, and issue input actions. Because ADB can reach deep into a device’s functions, it is a powerful administration tool and a high-value target.

In cyber security, ADB matters because any exposed or improperly trusted ADB service can become a direct path to device control. Attackers look for USB debugging left enabled, wireless ADB ports exposed on a network, or automation stacks that rely on ADB without strong access control. Defenders should keep debugging disabled when not needed, limit ADB to trusted hosts, avoid network exposure, and verify authorization prompts. In secure environments, ADB is useful, but only when tightly scoped and monitored.
