Adaptability

The ability of malware to adjust to different screens, prompts, or user flows with less manual rewriting.

Adaptability is a malware trait that lets hostile code adjust its behavior to different screens, prompts, or user flows without needing a full rewrite. Instead of following one rigid script of taps and inputs, adaptive malware can inspect what is on the device and choose the next action based on the current interface state.

This matters because mobile apps and operating systems change often. A fixed automation chain can break when a button moves, a confirmation step appears, or the wording of a prompt changes. Adaptive malware can survive those changes, making attacks harder to disrupt and detections based only on static patterns less effective. In real attacks, this shows up as real-time navigation, permission abuse, and repeated attempts to reach a target action. Defenders should look for unusual app behavior, suspicious prompt handling, and repeated navigation patterns, not just the malware binary itself.
