Actuator mechanism

The physical part that moves a disc into position.

An actuator mechanism is the physical component that turns a digital command into motion. In a flip-disc display, it moves a disc into one of its visible positions; in other systems it may open a valve, move a lock, or position a robot arm. Unlike software-only outputs, actuators have timing, force, and wear limits, so the control logic must match the hardware carefully.

In cyber security, actuators matter because they sit at the point where a cyber event becomes a physical effect. Attackers who gain control of an industrial controller, embedded device, or building system may use actuators to disrupt processes or cause unsafe behavior. Defenders monitor command integrity, sequence validation, and safety interlocks so that only authorized, well-formed actions reach the mechanism.
