XPay

An online payment gateway used to process e-commerce transactions and connect a merchant site to payment processing.

XPay is an online payment gateway that connects a merchant’s website or checkout flow to payment processing. It handles the handoff between the storefront, the acquiring/payment backend, and the transaction approval path, so the merchant does not process card data directly in its own application.

In cyber security, payment gateways matter because they sit on a high-value boundary. Attackers often target gateway integrations through stolen API keys, weak admin access, tampered checkout scripts, or misconfigured test and production environments. If a gateway is poorly integrated, an attacker may intercept payment requests, alter amounts, or exfiltrate secrets used to authorize transactions. Defensively, XPay-style services should use strong authentication, least-privilege API access, transport encryption, logging, and strict separation of environments to reduce fraud and unauthorized checkout manipulation.
