Worm-like campaign

Malicious activity that appears to spread or replicate across connected systems.

A worm-like campaign is malicious activity that seems to spread from one system to another through connected services, shared trust relationships, or repeated user connections. It does not always mean a true worm with autonomous self-propagation; the label is often used when the attack behavior looks contagious because each new connection can become a new delivery point for payloads.

In cyber security, this matters because defenders may assume a trusted remote-access path is safe. If a management instance, client, or admin channel is compromised, attackers can use that approved channel to transfer files, execute code, or reach newly connected endpoints. Defenses include inventorying remote tools, monitoring session behavior, restricting file transfer and execution, segmenting administrative access, and verifying that client software and management instances are legitimate and patched.
