Workshare

the division of tasks, value, and responsibilities among partners in a program.

Workshare is the division of tasks, value, and responsibilities among partners in a program. In industrial projects, it determines who designs, builds, integrates, tests, and manages the most sensitive parts of a system. The term is often used in aerospace and large supply chains, where each partner’s role affects cost, influence, and long-term technical control.

In cyber security, workshare matters because it shapes where expertise, access, and trust are concentrated. A partner that handles core engineering or integration may also hold privileged credentials, source code, design data, or operational knowledge. Attackers target those relationships through supply-chain compromise, vendor access abuse, and phishing against contractors. Defenders use workshare to plan segmentation, least privilege, code review boundaries, and third-party risk controls. When work is split poorly, one compromised partner can expose many others; when it is structured carefully, it limits blast radius and preserves resilience.
