Withdrawal controls are account settings and approval rules that limit or verify outgoing transfers from a crypto platform. They can include address allowlists, cooling-off periods, transaction alerts, withdrawal locks, multi-factor confirmation, or extra checks for new devices and new destination wallets.
They matter because once funds leave an exchange or wallet service, recovery is often difficult or impossible. Attackers who steal passwords, hijack sessions, or trick users through phishing and impersonation often try to change payout settings and withdraw quickly before the victim notices. Strong withdrawal controls slow that process, create time for detection, and force the attacker to pass additional verification. In practice, they are a key defense against account takeover, support-abuse scams, and unauthorized transfers on high-value crypto accounts.
