Web integrity

the trustworthiness of a website's content, files, and behavior.

Web integrity is the trustworthiness of a website’s content, files, and behavior. It means the site is serving the expected pages, scripts, images, and login flows, without unauthorized changes, injected code, or hidden redirects. In practice, web integrity is what tells defenders that a site is still behaving like the organization intended.

This matters in cyber security because attackers often target websites to spread malware, steal credentials, deface content, or stage phishing pages. A ransomware claim against a public site does not prove compromise, so defenders should verify web integrity before treating the claim as fact. Common checks include comparing file hashes, reviewing web server and WAF logs, validating authentication events, and monitoring for unexpected code changes or new admin accounts. Strong web integrity controls help detect tampering early and reduce the chance that visitors, customers, or internal users are misled by a compromised site.
