Wallet credentials

Secrets used to access or control a crypto wallet, such as passwords or recovery material.

Wallet credentials are the secrets that prove ownership of a crypto wallet and allow transactions to be approved. They can include a password, private key, seed phrase, recovery phrase, or other recovery material. Unlike a normal account login, these secrets often give direct control over funds, so exposing them can lead to immediate theft.

In real attacks, criminals try to phish wallet credentials through fake websites, browser extensions, support chats, or malicious apps that mimic a trusted wallet. Defenders reduce risk by never sharing seed phrases, verifying the publisher and install path, using hardware wallets for high-value funds, and treating any request for recovery material as suspicious. Once wallet credentials are leaked, blockchain transactions are usually irreversible, which makes prevention more important than cleanup.
