Vulnerability validation

The process of checking whether a suspected flaw is real and reproducible.

Vulnerability validation is the process of checking whether a suspected security flaw is real, reachable, and reproducible. A report, scan result, or AI-generated warning is only a candidate until it can be confirmed under controlled conditions. Validation usually means reproducing the issue, observing the unsafe behavior, and ruling out false positives or environmental mistakes.

This step matters because defenders need to know which findings deserve immediate patching and which are noise. In real security work, validation sits between discovery and remediation: analysts may use test cases, debugging, static analysis, fuzzing, or sandboxed runs to confirm the bug before writing a fix. Attackers also perform the same kind of checking when they probe systems for exploitable weaknesses, which is why validation must be done carefully and logged. In AI-assisted security workflows, validation is the guardrail that prevents plausible-looking but incorrect fixes from reaching production.
