Virtual hospital

A care model that delivers some services outside the physical hospital setting.

A virtual hospital is a care model that delivers some clinical services outside the physical hospital, often through home monitoring, telehealth, mobile devices, and remote specialist review. In cyber security, this matters because care now depends on networks, identity systems, medical apps, and data moving across many locations instead of staying inside one protected building.

This wider footprint creates a larger attack surface. Threats can target patient portals, remote-monitoring devices, weak passwords, insecure APIs, or unpatched home equipment to steal health data, disrupt care, or alter clinical information. Defenders reduce risk with strong authentication, encryption, device management, segmentation, audit logging, and clear escalation procedures. In practice, a secure virtual hospital must protect both the technology and the workflow, because lost connectivity or compromised data can delay treatment and harm patient safety.
