ViDA, short for VAT in the Digital Age, is the EU tax initiative that modernizes how value-added tax is reported and exchanged. It pushes businesses toward standardized e-invoicing, continuous or near-real-time e-reporting, and better interoperability between finance systems and tax platforms. In practice, ViDA turns invoice data into a structured digital process rather than a simple document flow.
That matters for cybersecurity because invoicing now sits inside connected business infrastructure. Attackers may target ERP integrations, invoice portals, or APIs to change payment details, submit fraudulent invoices, or disrupt reporting. Defenders need strong identity controls, input validation, logging, reconciliation, and segregation of duties so automated compliance data stays accurate and trustworthy. ViDA therefore raises the security bar: when tax reporting becomes machine-readable and more frequent, data integrity and access control become part of the compliance requirement.
