Vertical AI is an artificial intelligence system built for one specific domain, such as energy, finance, healthcare, or industrial control. Instead of trying to be broadly capable, it is trained and constrained around domain rules, terminology, and operating context. In security-sensitive environments, that focus matters because the model must understand what inputs are trustworthy, what outputs are allowed, and when a human must approve an action.
In cyber security, vertical AI can reduce mistakes by enforcing domain logic, but it also creates a narrow target for attackers. Adversaries may try data poisoning, context manipulation, or malformed inputs to push the model toward unsafe recommendations. Defenders therefore pair vertical AI with validation, access control, logging, and human oversight. In practice, the safest deployments use it for decision support, not direct control of high-risk systems, so automation stays inside operational and regulatory guardrails.
