Verification triage is the first defensive check used to determine whether an alert, report, or claim reflects real malicious activity. It is a fast, structured review of the most immediate evidence: logs, endpoint data, authentication events, network flows, file hashes, and user reports.
In cyber security, verification triage matters because not every warning is a confirmed intrusion. A ransomware post, phishing alert, or anomaly may turn out to be a false positive, a benign event, or only a partial incident. Triage helps defenders avoid overreacting while still preserving speed. Analysts commonly compare the claim against internal indicators, look for corroborating activity, and decide whether to escalate to deeper incident response. In attacks and defenses alike, good verification triage reduces noise, focuses resources, and prevents premature conclusions.
