VER

Vulnerability Evaluation and Reporting, the process for judging impact and providing structured vulnerability status.

VER stands for Vulnerability Evaluation and Reporting. It is the process of reviewing a discovered weakness, judging its real impact, and recording its status in a structured way. A good VER workflow goes beyond “scan found something”: it answers whether the issue is truly exploitable, which systems are affected, how urgent it is, and what remediation path is being taken.

In cyber security, VER matters because raw vulnerability lists are not enough to drive action. Teams need consistent evaluation criteria, risk-based prioritization, and clear reporting so defenders, auditors, and operators can track progress. In practice, VER appears in ticketing systems, compliance evidence, and remediation dashboards, where findings are marked open, under review, mitigated, or closed. Strong VER helps security teams focus on externally exposed or known-exploited weaknesses first, while weak reporting can hide stale or unresolved risk.
