A vantage point is the position or angle from which something is observed. In cybersecurity, it describes where a sensor, analyst, or attacker sits relative to the systems being watched. The same event can look very different from an endpoint, a firewall, a cloud audit log, or a network packet capture.
This matters because visibility depends on perspective. Defenders use multiple vantage points to spot patterns, confirm alerts, and reduce blind spots. Attackers also seek better vantage points by gaining access to internal hosts, cloud accounts, or admin tools, because closer access reveals more detail and makes abuse harder to detect. Good security work often means comparing several viewpoints before deciding what is real.
