UI-API layer

an application interface path that can be abused if access controls are weak.

The UI-API layer is the application path that connects a user interface to backend data and functions. In many enterprise portals, it is how pages load records, run searches, submit forms, and fetch status from the server. Because it sits between the visible front end and the underlying application logic, it can expose powerful actions through ordinary-looking web requests.

This matters in cyber security because weak authentication, poor authorization checks, or excessive data exposure at the UI-API layer can let attackers read or modify information they should not access. In real attacks, adversaries may inspect browser traffic, replay requests, or automate calls to find hidden endpoints and data-leak vectors. Defenders should treat these requests as security-relevant, enforce server-side access control, and monitor for unusual API usage, especially in portals and SaaS services that handle sensitive records.
