Trusted hosts

Restricted IP addresses allowed to reach an administrative interface, used to narrow who can attempt management access.

Trusted hosts are a security control that limits which IP addresses can reach an administrative interface. Instead of letting any network client try to log in, the device checks whether the source address is on an allowlist before showing the management console or accepting admin traffic. This reduces the attack surface, especially for appliances and cloud services that expose high-value control planes.

In cyber security, trusted hosts matter because authentication alone is not always enough. If an attacker can reach the login page, they can still probe for weaknesses, brute-force credentials, or exploit an authentication bypass. Restricting management access to trusted hosts helps block unneeded exposure from user networks and the internet, making flaws harder to abuse. It is a defense-in-depth measure, not a replacement for patching, strong passwords, or multi-factor authentication.
