Trusted domain

a legitimate web address that users and systems are more likely to accept at face value.

A trusted domain is a legitimate web address that users, browsers, and security tools are more likely to accept at face value. Trust may come from a known brand, an institutional site, valid certificates, good reputation scores, or simple familiarity. In cyber security, that trust is powerful: it can lower suspicion, help malicious links pass casual review, and make automated filtering less aggressive.

Attackers often abuse trusted domains by compromising a real site, planting redirects, hosting deceptive pages, or using a reputable hostname in a redirect chain. This can make phishing, ad fraud, and malware delivery look ordinary. Defenders look for misuse by monitoring unusual traffic patterns, unexpected redirects, content changes, and domain reputation shifts. A trusted domain is not automatically safe; it is only a signal that must still be verified.
