Trust services are digital services that provide evidence and assurance in electronic transactions. They include identity verification, electronic signatures, electronic seals, timestamping, and certificate issuance or validation. In practice, they help prove who acted, what was approved, and whether a document or message was changed after signing. That makes them important for contracts, payments, regulated workflows, and any system that needs legally meaningful proof.
In cyber security, trust services protect against impersonation and tampering, but they also become high-value targets. Attackers may try to steal signing keys, abuse weak identity proofing, compromise a certificate authority, or trick users into accepting forged documents. Defenders reduce risk with strong onboarding checks, hardware-backed key storage, revocation controls, audit logs, and clear separation between identity, signing, and approval steps. When implemented well, trust services turn electronic records into verifiable evidence rather than just editable files.
