Transaction limits

Pre-set boundaries that cap how much a system can move, change, or approve.

Transaction limits are preset boundaries that cap how much a system can move, change, or approve in one action or over a defined period. In security design, they reduce the blast radius of compromised accounts, abused APIs, and over-permissioned automation by forcing risky activity to stay within a controlled range.

They matter because attackers often try to turn a small foothold into a large loss: a stolen credential may be used to make repeated payments, alter records, or trigger workflows at scale. Limits interrupt that pattern by slowing abuse and creating points where monitoring or human approval can intervene. In enterprise AI, transaction limits help ensure an agent can draft, queue, or recommend actions without automatically executing high-value changes. Effective limits are specific, measurable, and paired with alerts, approval gates, and rapid revocation when behavior changes.
