Threat sharing

The exchange of cyber threat indicators or warnings so organizations can defend faster.

Threat sharing is the exchange of cyber threat indicators, tactics, or warnings between organizations so they can defend faster. Shared details may include malicious IP addresses, phishing domains, malware hashes, attacker behaviors, or signs of compromise found in logs. The value is speed: one organization’s detection can become another organization’s early warning before the same campaign spreads.

In practice, threat sharing supports both prevention and response. Security teams use shared indicators to update firewalls, email filters, endpoint tools, and detection rules. In critical infrastructure, including utilities, it helps smaller operators compensate for limited staff and visibility by learning from peers, government advisories, or industry groups. Good sharing is most useful when the data is timely, specific, and validated, because stale or inaccurate indicators can create noise and waste analyst time. Used well, threat sharing turns isolated observations into collective defense.
