Telecom connection

A communications link used to move data or voice traffic between networks.

A telecom connection is a communications link that carries data or voice traffic between networks, sites, or carriers. It can be a leased fiber route, a microwave link, a carrier circuit, or another managed path that organizations depend on for normal connectivity and backup routing.

In cyber security, telecom connections matter because they are part of the trusted infrastructure that keeps services available. If a connection is cut, misconfigured, or allowed to expire, traffic may be rerouted, latency may increase, and redundancy may fail when it is needed most. Attackers can also target telecom infrastructure to disrupt communications, intercept traffic, or force a victim onto less secure paths. Defenders therefore inventory these links, monitor their health, test failover, and track contracts and physical access as carefully as they track firewalls and servers.
